I think the reason there is so much ado regarding all the adaptions of the P&P movies comes down to one very simple reason...If you are a fan of Miss Austen's novel, the characters will come alive for you. By the time you finish reading the book you will wish to meet these people as if they truly do exist. What better way to do it then by seeing them in the movies or on the t.v.? That way you can have your pick and choice of your favorite Darcy, Elizabeth, Bingley, Jane or even Wickman and bring them alive in your mind's eye!

First of all, the 1940 version of "PRIDE AND PREJUDICE" was responsible for making me a fan of Austen's work. Second, I recently viewed it and discovered that I still found it very enjoyable. Since none of the film and television adaptations are completely faithful to Austen's novel, I STILL do not understand the hullabaloo over this movie.

I really, really enjoyed the archery scene, even though it wasn't Jane Austen at all.

With her! I meant what is wrong with *her*, with Jane! She's sick after getting caught in the rain, of course. (Maybe she didn't get a pinacolada to go...)

Ooh! Ooh! But you are missing some of the *best* moments of that adaptation!

Okay, perhaps not the best ones, but some hilarious scenes that should not be skipped:

- The carriage race between Lady Lucas and Mrs. Bennet, in order to have their respective spouses visit Mr. Bingley first.
- The apothecary explaining to Jane what is wrong with him, with Mr. Bingley kindly explaining every puzzling sentence, popping up from behind a screen.
- Every freaking scene with the goofey Mary Bennet!

Certainly, those are not Austen moments at all, but oh, how they add up to this crazy adaptation. Can you tell I love it? :-)
