I liked the look of this film and it was well cast. I particularly liked the reinterpretation of Mr. Bennett's character which seemed more realistic and also more of what you would expect from a man married to a woman that is a poor match for him.

However the film simply went by too fast and cut too much for the characters to really suck me in the way the 1995 version does. Darcy is very well cast and his scenes are very moving but it is not entirely clear who Elizabeth is and why Mr. Darcy would be attracted to her in particular. This creates a major problem for the emotion of the film in my opinion because what really moves me about Darcy and Elizabeth -- their shared set of high standards and sense of independence -- does not really come through at all. So ultimately although it had enjoyable moments I felt like I was being whisked along so quickly I was never able to really sink into the story or its characters.

Do you happen to know the place where Lizzie stood at the cliffs? The scene is just magnificent. I would really like to visit there.

a very nice version, but the story is jammed into a short two hours, leaving an average viewer confused half the time.... I only understood what was going on because I'd read the book; abrupt scene changes and fast-spoken lines, completely skipping parts of the novel ruined it for me. the 1995 BBC version will always be the one for me. it portrays the soul of the story, has an amazingly talented cast, and let's you get to know the characters. although this movie is nice, I'm with BBC 1995<3

I love the movie and the book so much and is so alike. I think all the actors for the characters are the perfect match and I couldn't have picked better. I think this movie is the best and most inspiring and is wonderful!!

It's odd, but there have been many complaints about the costumes featured in this adaptation of "PRIDE AND PREJUDICE". Many have complained that it was not faithful to the Regency period. What people don't realize is that despite being published in 1813, "P&P" is not a Regency-era story. It was originally written in the late 1790s. And the costumes in this adaptation certainly reflect this. None of the other adaptations do.

My favorite thing about this movie is the director’s ability to convey the deep sadness of a broken heart. It made me sad for Elizabeth and Darcy – even though I know they get together!!
I love the silent, contemplative scenes that depict time passing while Elizabeth reflects on her actions (swing, mirror). Is the cliff/dreaming scene meant to show Elizabeth looking over her future – vast and alone??
I adore JA's books and the BBC series but I prefer a perfect movie over a factually faithful adaptation.

Thanks for this site. I just watched P&P on TV (again) and felt the need to emote!

This is my favorite Jane Austen Novel, and this adaption has become my favorite movie. Everything about it takes my breath away, from the sweeping music, to the gorgeous landscapes, and wonderful chemistry between all of the characters. I have watched it over a dozen times, and can watch it ten dozen more, and each time I love it more.

I certainly make no secret of the fact that I love and adore this movie. It was my introduction to Austen, an absolutely brilliant movie, a fine adaptation that dealt extremely well with the limitations of 2 hours vs.6, and set me on my writing path. For all those reasons and a million more I can find no fault. Thanks for the wonderful review.

This is a beautiful movie and I'm always transfixed by the colour and richness of it. It is a terrific cast. I completely understand having to cut out so much to fit it into a movie length...... but (only a little but though) sometimes they spoke so fast they were hard to understand - and I have a good ear for the english accent (mother & stepmom english)!
