As you may have been aware, it was recently announced that the wonderfully distracting ITV series Lost in Austen is to be made into a movie. The series brings every Pride and Prejudice fan’s dream to life, by transporting Amanda Price (Jemima Rooper) directly into Longbourn, the Bennet family home. Here she lives through and inadvertently changes the events of the book. An article in the Guardian on the 11th of February stated quite clearly that due to the critical acclaim of and interest in the series ‘A movie version is now being developed for Sony Pictures, the Hollywood studio behind James Bond movie Quantum of Solace and the forthcoming Angels and Demons, by the TV show’s original UK independent producer Mammoth Screen.’
As a huge fan of Lost in Austen, I was brought into a state of excessive happiness at this thought and went directly to the Internet Movie Database site (imdb.com) to have it confirmed. It was true! But, alas, when I looked it up again today to check for any progress, all the details had been removed. Now it simply states Pride and Prejudice (2011) without any of the information such as, writer, producer and executive producer that it had before. I also checked a number of other movie websites but to no avail. What can this mean? Maybe it is delayed or maybe it’s not happening at all? I hate to be the bringer of bad tidings, but there it is.
What do you think on the matter? Am I deficient in Information? Please let me know, post haste!
Your dearest and most concerned friend,
Lizzy

please, let it be true. and please, let Richard Armitage be Darcy. It’ll be a dream coming true.
re: carol’s comment
i had no idea who richard armitage was, so i imdb-ed him. holy moly! yes!!!! he would be a divine darcy!!!! if you’ve got some kind of petition for this, i will gladly sign it. however, this is hollywood. they’ll probably go with someone lame like tom cruise.
lyda
hopefully not Tom Cruise though, lol
lol, yeah, that’s how 90% of the women population react after seeing him. he’s simply gorgeous, a very talented actor and has a swoon-worthy voice….you should watch North & South, it’s a BBC adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell’s classic where he plays John Thornton. he’s amazing in it and I dream of him playing Darcy ever since I watched it.
unfortunately I dont have a petition and I know Hollywood will probably go with someone lame, as you said
thanks carol!
i actually just finished watching “lost in austen” on netflix (watch instantly) yesterday and just fell in love!! it was done really well and it was nice to see
i will most definitely check out “north and south.” it’s been a slow work day. i wonder if i can catch it now.
thanks again!
oops, forgot to finish…
…it was nice to see different sides to the characters. caroline “played for the other team;” wickham isn’t the bastard we all thought he was; and apparently, darcy would have fallen for anyone that stood up to him. hahaha. jk.
granted, this wasn’t miss austen’s interpretation. but she can’t exactly chime in.
all in all, well done.
Omg I really would love to watch that movie. I actually checked out the one for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and there isn’t much info either. Please, make these films!!!
I read something somewhere about a new modern PP comin up in 2011. Any idea?
Richard Armitage, my god, when I saw the North & South trailer, I instantly thought, “Darcy!!!!!” The woman playing the lead in that series just doesn’t fit into the role. She does not do well at all, acting beside Armitage.
Armitage is the british huge grant
Still nothing on this online so guessing it isn’t happening? Pity
Really enjoyed the mini series!
So I just finished this on Netflix and I absolutely loved it.
Wish they made more TV like this in the States. Elliot Cowan makes a fine Mr. Darcy. And to hear Mr. Darcy say “Amanda” and the meaning of my name made me swoon. I’ve also thought that Richard Armitage would be a fantastic Mr. Darcy since I saw him in “North & South”. He’s absolutely gorgeous. I have bookmarked this awesome site and will return for more updates!!
Am I alone in thinking that this is terrible news. The television Lost in Austen was a complete gem of a series. It needs no remake, it is complete and perfect in itself.
Nay, Armitage has a pointy nose and an odd smile he should stick with Sir Guy form Robin Hood I think the cast that are in the TV show should do the movie it just wouldn’t be the same its like trying to make Daniel Radcliff play cinderella it wouldn’t be the same
I agree with angelique, I can’t imagine Armitage as Darcy. I think Elliot Cowan did a good job though. We’ve past the halfway mark of 2011, yet still no news is to be heard upon the release of the film. Even simple information such as description is lacking from the internet. I would really love it if it was released, the tv series was really entertaining to watch. But if Hollywood make it based in New York with an american cast and american backdrop, I shan’t watch it. It won’t be the same as the Hammersmith backdrop.
