For the 1980 BBC television series, click here. Our posts on the 1940 movie are located here. We also have a characters page, and specific features on Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet.
Site Navigation for Newcomers
There is a Categories list at the top of the sidebar on the far-right of each page. This breaks our features down into subjects like ‘Reviews,’ ‘Television,’ and ‘Movies.’ Click these links to be taken to lists of features under these headings. If you want to read our articles about the novel – both serious and (hopefully!) funny – then see our Musings page. Our favorite post is our ludicrous attempt to update Jane Austen’s book as modern gangster movie! We also write more sensible things of course!
Pride and Prejudice 2005
Fans of the 2005 movie, starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, can click here to see all our posts on the subject. We have, for example, video of the famously dreamy ‘rain scene’ and a feature on the manor houses used in the film.
The 1995 TV series
Click here if you’re into the BBC 1995 adaptation. This is the dramatization of Pride and Prejudice that stars Jennifer Ehle, and of course Colin Firth. Unforgivably gooey Colin Firth posts can also be found on our Category page and also here. This is our glowing DVD review of the 1995 TV series.
The BBC 1980 adaptation
The 1980 dramatization for the BBC, starring Elizabeth Garvie and David Rintoul as Elizabeth and Mr Darcy, is also covered on our site.
The 1940 movie
The 1940 movie, starring Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson, can even be watched for free online on our website. It’s also covered in posts on our 1940 page. Click here for our review of this lighthearted but glamorous adaptation.
If you’re interested in how these adaptations compare then either the ‘Television’ or the ‘Movies’ category should help. In particular, you may be interested in this article on the different ways in which Darcy’s first proposal to Elizabeth was written in the major adaptations.
Lost in Austen
We also cover the hilarious and irreverent Lost in Austen. For anyone unfamiliar with the show, it’s a hilarious 2008 TV series, now available on DVD, which is set to be made into a film in 2011. The story follows Amanda Price, a present-day Londoner, who finds herself transported to Longbourn through a mysterious hatch in her bathroom. Our review of the DVD can be found here, and all posts on the series are available via this link.
Extras
We also cover related fiction and spin-off television shows and films. These include the excellent Pride and Prejudice and Zombies novel (reviewed here) and the interactive Lost in Austen/Being Elizabeth Bennet adventure book. We also post on the Bollywood adaptation Bride and Prejudice here.
